We regret to report that Ian Brownell died suddenly on Saturday 14th April 2012.
Ian and his wife Anne joined Ulley Sailing Club in 2003 as Family Members to support their son Tim's desire to sail. Anne was soon crewing on a regular basis and they all rapidly became well established club members, but it took Ian a little while to realise that it was more fun to sail himself than to just watch his family sailing. He then acquired a Laser and became a regular competitor in the Club races - provided it didn't prevent him watching the motor racing Grand Prix on television!
Ian was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January and had just finished a course of treatment prior to an operation. As far as we knew, the treatment had gone well, so his sudden death from peritonitis came as a shock.
The funeral was on Tuesday 1st May at St Joseph's Church, Dinnington and afterwards at Ulley Sailing Club.
