Death of Former Commodore and Founder Member

I regret to inform you of the death of  Geoff Machon on 23rd December 2010.

Geoff was a founder member and a former Commodore of Ulley SC.  A whole generation of sailors will remember his "blackboard training" sessions at the Club on Wednesday evenings during the winter months for many years - always beginning with the 'Five Essentials'!  He was always patient and good humoured and took great pains to involve everybody there - from the youngest to the oldest.

Others will remember him for his beloved National 12, Sgt. Bilko, with its distinctive cartoons on the bows and for his trademark pipe!

Geoff's funeral will be held at Rotherham Crematorium at 14:20 on Friday 7th January.

It is with regret that I inform you that Ted Lomas passed away at 11:15am Sunday 14th Novemeber in Rotherham District General Hospital.

After suffering for some time with Prostrate Cancer, Ted finally succumbed to kidney failure.  He was 87 years old.

Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Audrey, and we share the loss of Ted who has been a member of the Club for a very long time.  He had not sailed for many years, but he kept an active interest in the Club and came to watch the racing nearly every Sunday.  We had not seen so much of him in the last few years because of his health problems, but he still made every effort to attend the Club's social functions.

Ted's cremation service will be held at 12:20 on Tuesday 23rd November at Rotherham Crematorium, Ridgeway, East Herringthorpe, Rotherham, S65 3NN.

Club comes 36th and 62nd at Southport September 2004

This year's 24 hour race a Southport was a windy affair, with gusts up to force 8 on occasions. For the first time the club entered two boats: one a master's team and one a junior's team. As the wind increased throughout the race it soon became apparent that the best tactic was just not to capsize! That said, capsizes were plentiful amongst all the competitors. In all 77 teams took part with the eventual winners being Bolton Sailing Club. After breaking two booms, a tiller, and almost one Commodore (Dave White was run over by a boat), the Ulley Junior's boat finished 36th and the Master's 62nd.
