Ulley Sailing Club Development Plan
Ulley Sailing Club found itself in a difficult position following the floods of 2007. At that time we had a flourishing club with a thriving junior section. However, over the last 3 years the majority of the juniors have matured and are now in the process of applying for university. With the long term future of the club in mind we felt it important to have some clearly defined long term goals for the club and we are now reviewing our Club Development Plan with the kind help of RMBC and the RYA to help secure Ulley Country Park as the long term home of the Club.
The first stage in the development plan has been achieved with the granting of CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) status, which gives us a similar status to a charity and the advantages that brings. We are also in negotiation with RMBC to renegotiate our lease to give us much more (hopefully 25 years) long term security.
In addition to this we also have specific goals about:-
Teaching and coaching, membership, facilities, equipment, links with the local community of all backgrounds and schools, disability membership and access (we already have several long standing members who have significant disabilities and who are active members of the club) and talent development
We are, and have always been, a club that is inclusive of people from all social and ethnic backgrounds. However the Development Plan embeds this long standing ethic in a form of words which means that when negotiating with RMBC or funding bodies, we can demonstrate that we have considered these issues carefully. Ulley Sailing Club has always tried to make sailing an affordable pastime and to this end we already have a small fleet of boats which can be used by new members. We hope to add to this fleet during the next couple of years with the aim of making sailing at Ulley accessible and affordable to all.
We are always looking to strengthen The Club with new members; come along and visit us and see the benefits of dinghy sailing in one of the best clubs in the region.
